The Field Map
A printable map for one night out: the doors, how each one charges, and what to say when you open it. First area: Omoide Yokocho, Shinjuku.
What it is
The book gives you the feeling of a Tokyo night. The guides on this site explain how each kind of place works. The Field Map is the part you carry: one area per edition, drawn by hand over the real street plan, with numbered doors and a few lines on each.
- A hand-drawn map that matches the real streets, so the numbers lead where they say.
- For each door: what kind of place it is, how the charge works, and what to expect when you walk in.
- The phrases you need at that door, in Japanese and in letters you can read.
- A year on the cover. Prices and doors change, so each edition says which year it describes.
First edition: Omoide Yokocho
Omoide Yokocho is a pair of narrow alleys beside the west exit of Shinjuku Station, lined with tiny grill counters. It is small enough to walk in five minutes and confusing enough to need a map. That edition is in the works now.
